abrantes family health centre
Abrantes - 2017
The renovation of the old Abrantes bus station was a chance to create the right conditions to attract visitors to the historic heart of the city.
The urban regeneration strategy was designed to connect Abrantes Family Health Centre, the Daily Market, the Welcome Centre and the Citizens’ Shop to be instaled on the first floor of the building.
It appears as a simple volume of sharp edges inserted in a very consolidated area of Abrantes.
A monolith in white concrete stands out, not as an imposing form, but by the awareness of the architectural program and the functional purpose of any health institution.
The building is a direct response to the program with a logical internal layout. The connection between the two floors is assumed as a vertical element that has a dialogue with the old pre-existing central bus station.
The design of the façade has become a game of negative and positive, establishing a dialogue with the surrounding area.
